In early morning calm
our new house silent
in this room I oversee
beneath thick covers
her drifting sleep
like the doze of mist
rising above the water
at the bottom of the hill
where the heavy ships
push their slow way
toward another landing,
their weighted passage
the rhythm of our days
arriving, departing
our cargo of hope
in each rising breath
in seafaring dreams
in the great, brave
seas beneath her
fathomless eyes.
